Our History
1989
Strong Set Up
Inspired by Hollywood’s studios, visionary producer Stephen J. Cannell founded what would become North Shore Studios, quickly establishing it as a cornerstone of Canadian film and television.
1990s
New Scene
Sprawling over 13 acres, our state-of-the-art facility became home to iconic series like 21 Jump Street and The X-Files, ushering in a new era for Vancouver’s film scene.
1997
Take Two
NSS was purchased by Lionsgate Entertainment and aptly renamed Lions Gate Studios. The facility was expanded in 1999 with the addition of two new soundstages.
2006
Changing Lenses
Bosa Development purchased the studio from Lionsgate and brought North Shore Studios and Mammoth Studios under one management team to form Canada’s largest studios at the time.
2010s
Sharp Focus
Entering a decade of growth, we embraced new technologies and strengthened our role as a strategic partner, helping productions thrive in an evolving industry.
2012
Giving Back
Furthering their commitment to the film industry in BC, Bosa Development built the The Nat and Flora Bosa Centre for Film and Animation, a state-of-the-art facility and home to the School of Motion Picture Arts and School of Animation & Visual Effects at Capilano University.
2020–2022
Spotlight on Resilience
Two new soundstages completed the massive footprint of Mammoth Studios in the Spring of 2020. Despite the challenges COVID-19 presented, NSS adapted with resilience, strengthening community ties and offering flexible solutions. Our commitment to agility and client satisfaction helped us exceed expectations through adversity.
